Third Annual Valentine's Dinner Dance

Courageous Kids Founder, Terri Hocking, and Courageous Kid of the evening, Evan Westphal, share a dance and great times at our Third Annual Valentine's Dinner Dance.

More than $15,000 was raised at this year's gala, which featured a plated meal, silent auction, cash bar, champagne toastat the Inn at St. John's in Plymouth.  That's more than double what we raise for our Courageous Kids at or 2016 Valentine's Dinner Dance!

None of this would have been possible without the support of our community, participants, donors, and sponsors.  A heart full of thanks to all of those who support Courageous Kids in helping us to inspire hope and help kids cope!

A Letter From our Founder

Nov. 3, 2015

Dear Families, Friends and Supporters of Courageous Kids,

Since starting Courageous Kids more than 5 years ago, I have had the honor of getting to know so many of you. At this time, there are some important organizational changes taking place that I would like to share with you.

I am stepping down as Executive Director of Courageous Kids and taking a seat on the volunteer Board of Directors for the organization. Two wonderful and motivated individuals have joined our organization to serve the mission of Courageous Kids.

Rick Nork was elected President and CEO of Courageous Kids in October. Rick recently retired as Vice President for Finance and Business Operations and CFO of Wayne State University in Detroit, where he served for 5 years following a 30+ year career in corporate finance and administration positions in various companies, including GE, Bendix and Bosch. Rick can be reached at rick@courageouskidsmi.org.  He is looking forward to growing and stabilizing the organization in order to better serve our Courageous Kids and their families and create memorable events for our families long into the future.

Leah Borst has joined as the Director of Operations and is the primary contact for future Courageous Kids events. Leah has worked with Michigan nonprofits for nearly 10 years, most recently serving as the Communications Manager for Make-A-Wish Michigan. She is thrilled to have the chance to work with our Courageous Kids, families and partners, and she is already looking forward to planning new events. She can be reached at leah@courageouskidsmi.org

Stay tuned as Rick and Leah faciliate additonal ways to serve our families. I will continue working hard to help Courageous Kids grow though Southeast Michigan.

Best,

Terri Hocking
